Week #21 - Seventeen Seventy

luckaslatner

It almost felt like a heartache to leave the beautiful Elliott Heads, but we needed to move north. Trade winds awaiting.

We kite, at least we try to as much as time, conditions and obligations permit. However, we also like to change pace from now and again. Australia is so much more than just beautiful beaches.

We think sometimes you need to see some of the famous spots, if for nothing else, just to see if the hubbub is justified. We marked the historic Seventeen Seventy on our map. And to answer your first question, YES , Seventeen Seventy is a real name of a real town in Queensland. Honest!

And if you think I'm taking the p!ss, check these names out. Come by Chance, Useless Loop, Nowhere Else Road, Dismal Swamp and .... (my personal favourite) Eggs and Bacon Bay to name a few.

To tie it all off, we're headed to Yorkeys Knob in a few weeks. There! :D

It is always a hoot to try to explain to some of our friends the interesting and unusual names of some of the Australia’s places. And don’t get me started on the pronunciation of thereof. The letters do not match the sounds. Mostly ever. LOL!

I dare you to pronounce Boulia correctly. If you’re not an Aussie, you can forget about it.

Jokes aside, Seventeen Seventy has been on our radar as we heard so much about it. And it didn’t disappoint. We stayed at Agnes Waters, around the corner from Seventeen Seventy, and spent our days hiking and admiring the views.

It was a shame the museum was closed at the time as we really wanted to check it out and learn about the place but what can you do. We’ll put this one down for the “round two”.

River mouth promises some nice flat-water kiting but alas no wind came around to test the spot 😉. Another thing to put down on the “round two.” Poor us, by the looks of it we’ll have to travel for a long time.

Here are the links to our walks.

Agnes Waters Beach

Start of the walk to Seventeen Seventy lookout. Had to pose with the monument for some reason. LOL!

And the jaw dropping views from the lookout. Worth every step to get there.

Magical Paperbark Tree Forest walk. You should put it on your bucket list, like right now.

Agnes Waters beach, but this time from the southern side. We never get tired of seeing these beauties.

Sunset over the Seventeen Seventy bay. Simply amazing.

We are Windchasers, a kiteboarding family who travel around Australia to find new and exciting kite spots, we have two small kids that we like take to the beach with us. Juggling kite and family can sometimes be quite challenging so this is us reporting what we find and how good it was for both kids and us.
