WEEK 19 – Cotton Tree And Noosa

We said goodbye to our friends in Caloundra and hopped to Cotton Tree, Maroochydore. We stayed at an awesome campsite, right at the mouth of the river Maroochy. What a beautiful spot!!!

The shallow delta offers flat water and plenty of things to do. We quickly pumped up the SUP and away we went. Out of the investments, the inflatable SUP was one of the best ones. Either on its own as a SUP or as a kayak, when one of the adults can take both kids for a ride.

We stayed in Maroochydore for a few days, hoping for the wind to pick up. This spot, with perfectly flat water was begging to be kited on. Alas, it didn’t happen. We did see some kites in the air on the ocean side but given our low experience on the waves, we decided not to go.

We did check out the Weyba Lake for kite, and we’ll write up a report on that.

Moved on to the fabled Noosa. The long weekend with sunny weather brought out every camper and tent possible, and there were hordes of kids at the caravan park where we stayed. The girls were in heaven.

We also got a new (second hand) bike for Vanea as she outgrew the previous one and handed down the other one to Lana. They were both over the moon and could keep up with the kids on bikes at the park.

Monday morning we decided to go for a walk in Noosa National Park. If you’re ever in those parts of Australia we would highly recommend it but do try to go over weekdays to avoid the crowds. Noosa is famous for surfing and lots of people flock there.

Now, we’re not very much into surfing but seeing the amazing waves and literally every person we saw carrying a surfboard, we’re kind of tempted to give it another go. We’re certain Vanea will be keen as she’s passionate body-boarder already. Looking for a surfboard in her size now.

The half an hour hike and small descend over the rocks – yes, off the recommended footpath – brought us to Fairy Ponds. Little pools amidst the rocks with crystal clear water where we splashed and watched the dolphins goof around in the bay. On the way back we even bumped into an echidna. We named it Echy, wished it happy foraging and waved it goodbye.

Perfect spot for a SUP on the river. Hard work coming back on an outgoing tide ;)

Jumping in Fairy Pools at Noosa National Park.

Looking for Wales and Dolphins at Dolphin Point on the Noosa National Park walk.

Echy the echidna!

Girls training to fly a kite. They were swapping on a trainer kite with Dad and learning how to fly a two line kite with the bar.

Beautiful sunsets at Cotton Tree. Many people come down with the blankets (and a glass of wine ;) to enjoy the moment.

Exiting game of Battle Blocks. We love playing this after a long day of running around.

The Big Pelican at Noosa Heads. The girls thought it was a hoot.
