WEEK 11 – KEEPING A LOW PROFILE IN BURPENGARY

Backlog. It’s beginning of April and we should have been in Mackay by now. Guess we won’t be. Our plans got derailed and it's a fate that a lot of fellow permanent travelers shared. We are hopeful this whole thing will pass soon but at this point it’s hard to say. In addition to COVID-19 drama, we had a parental unit (me) on half efficiency due to broken leg.

These past days were nerve-racking. We were getting mixed and confused information about permanent travelers and government closing the caravan parks. We feared we would have nowhere to go.

At first the government closed all the caravan parks but then rescinded the order after many people in the Permanent Travelers community raised their voices. Some caravan parks reopened but not all. It is a large community of nomads, estimates range around 75.000 people, and there was not enough room to accommodate them all. Some people got stuck on the side of the road.😔

This place where we’re staying at was a total lucky dip and we scored big time. It’s called Wescloud Lodge and the whole property is about 40 acres, although out of that the meadow where we have our caravan is “meager” 2 acres that we now comfortably claim for our own. How good is that? 🤜🤛😄

The girls have been incessantly chasing the owner’s dogs, and they have been pestering me to get one. Not going to happen. I’m digging in and getting ready for the long fight ahead. It’s not that I don’t like dogs but, in the end, it’s always mum who takes care of yet another creature in the household, right? 🐕

Anyway, here we are and by the looks of it, we’ll stay for a while. We’re hoping to visit the beach now and again. It’s not too far but given the conditions, we’ll keep a low profile for a while.☺️🤫
