WEEK 10 – ESCAPE FROM GOLD COAST

Having been done for the moment with the doctors and the broken knee situation, we quickly moved the camp closer to the hospital. It was impossible to plan ahead. we didn’t know where we’re going to go from there as it was uncertain until the end.

I was cleared for travel but still cannot drive, walk, and basically do much but rest. It sounds amazing but it’s harder than it looks.

It was the last week of March and we were at Gold Coast Treasure Island caravan park when the corona virus restrictions hit. It felt surreal. Like in one of those apocalyptic movies where we see the empty streets and wind carries the rubbish. You don’t think you’d ever see something like that until you do. 😔

First it was cancellation of all public activities and then it progressed onto locking down the public areas, playgrounds and barbecues. There were quite a few people in the caravan park and yet it was a ghost town. So sad and desolate. We did meet a lovely couple with small kids and the girls were delighted to have some new friends. Hearts were broken when they had to leave.

We had booked a stay at an awesome place just before the travel restrictions so we had to move camp one more time. Everything was so uncertain at that point. But we knew we had to get out of heavily populated Gold Coast and find a good spot to potentially bunker down and wait it out.

So, we arrived at an awesome place. A horse training ranch in Burpengary and it’s beautiful. Not a lot of people but plenty of birds and other wildlife. The owners and the carer are super nice and they have dogs that our girls “permanently borrowed”. This is not a bad place to be stuck at.

We are hoping to catch some wind before they close the beaches like they did in NSW. We are in need of some time on the water, even though it’s only Sebastjan who can enjoy it. I’ll stay content just to sit in the sand and smell the salty air. 🌊🧘‍♀️
