MACKAY & BLACKS BEACH – Week #40

Back to the big ol’ Mackay and back to Blacks Beach. We stayed at this Big4 caravan park before and were spoiled by the views again. And the wind forecast looked promising.

There’s nothing better than waking up into a windy day, walking down to the beach and pumping up the kite. For a kitesurfer that is. I bet there’s people out there who scowl at the sound of strong breeze but to us it’s music.

The wind gods smiled upon us and delivered a few days that we filled up with kitesurfing. But not everything was smooth sailing.

Vanea broke her big toe! Oh me, oh my. Riding a bicycle she had an unfortunate tumble and broke the toe. Now, I’m not sure how much you know about toes but this is a big one. Sorry about the pun! LOL It’s the most crucial and engaging toe in gait.

The docs gave her a moon boot and crutches, that she soon realised, weren’t as much fun as she thought. However she took it in stride, again with the pun!, and learned how quick one can be with the crutches! She made us trot behind her wherever she went. We must have looked like a bunch of chickens chasing a food bucket.

I’m slowly catching up with my posts so here we are.

The girls had a blast decorating the van with Halloween decorations watching scary stories. It is tricky to trick-or-treat in a caravan park. There weren’t many families with children nor “houses” that would participate. So we decided to take matters into our own hands.

Reverse trick-or-treating! We grabbed a bunch of sweets and lollies and walked around the park, handing out the lollies to everyone’s delight.

We also made a prototype of a wind gauge! Check it out! It only needs a scale to read the wind speed and we’re good to go! Will consider re-making it in sturdier materials now.
