GERALDTON. Kitesurfing And Fishing

Days of travel 623.

Number of times we set up and packed up the van 130. Give or take a dozen.

It took a while but we finally left Geraldton, WA. Cruising south, looking for more amazing kite surfing beaches and epic adventures.

For the past weeks we travelled alongside our dear friends and we wanted to squeeze last ounces of our time together before they had to rush back home so we stuck around Geraldton for a while longer than anticipated. All good, as Geraldton had a lot to offer.

kMart, fantastic playgrounds, Land Rover mechanic – those are hard to come by as any Land Rover owner can attest, nearby kitesurfing beach and the area is crawling with crayfish.

The best part is that the winds have finally picked up in earnest and we could kite pretty much every day. Couldn’t be happier.

View of Geraldton. I have to say, I was impressed with the esplanade that stretches from the very north of the town all the way down to the port. Great walks, cycle paths, playgrounds, cafes with delicious coffee. Cudos.

The Big Marble.

Of course the clever monkeys found a way to "hack it". LOL

The girls spotted virtual reality chairs in the local shopping mall. If you haven't tried one of these we would encourage you to put it on your to-do list. It's insane when you think how far the technology has advanced. The girls insisted we come back every week.

My catch of the day. Red-mouth emperor! Since I've never been on a charter and my largest catch was about 30cm, I was severely impressed with my catch. T'was an epic day of adventures. Bucket list item? Tick!

Sarah and I went on a fishing charter and part of the deal is crayfishing. We brought home 10! Apparently, the area is crawling with them. I'm considering moving here.

So many crayfish!!! And that was just the beginning! There are strict allowances how many you can take but I couldn't help not to be amazed with the sheer abundance these waters offer.

Guess what's for dinner!

A dab of garlic butter, BBQ, and done.

Northampton, just outside Geraldton, is littered with colourful sheep statues. The girls were super impressed and wanted to see and pat them all.

Coronation beach. Friendly advice? Bring a fly net. The abundance of bush flies will drive you insane. Funny enough, the locals are unperturbed by them. By now, they take them as a fact of life. The sun rises in the East, the water is wet and there are bush flies all year round.

Coronation beach kitesurfing. The beach is just 15mns out of Geraldton and frequented by local crew. The reef blocks off the big swell, offering decent flat water. The best part? The beach is right next to the camping area so guess where we stayed? Nothing beats waking up, walking to the beach and pumping up your kite.

Coronation Beach is well set up for any wind loving mate. And we've seen them all here. Kitesurfers, foilers, windsurfers, wing, ... this playground caters for all. In all honesty, I haven't seen anything like this. Either you fancy the flats or swell, twintip or surfboard, wing or kite, there's even a kiteschool for those who wish to brush up their skills. Big thumbs up from us.

After session sundowner drinks on the beach. Zen!
